SWE-Boston’s structure consists of an Executive Committee and many Committees, which work together to plan the many programs we offer throughout the year and to tend to general SWE-Boston business.

The President has the responsibilities of general supervision, direction, and control of the business affairs of the Section, and takes an active role in SWE-Boston committees, programs, and activities. She organizes bimonthly EC meetings and presides over all EC and general membership meetings. |
First Vice President - Professional Developement Committee Committee Members |
The First Vice President, as head of the Professional Development Committee, organizes the monthly meetings and other professional development programs for the Section. |
Second Vice President – K-12 Outreach |
The Second Vice President, as head of the K-12 Outreach Committee, oversees programs that inform women, their families, guidance counselors, and the public in general, of the qualifications and achievements of women engineers and the opportunities open to them. These programs include mentoring, science fairs, merit certificates, Girl Scouts, and the Speaker’s Bureau. |
Recording Secretary |
The Recording Secretary records, prepares, maintains, and distributes the record of the proceedings of the membership and EC meetings. |
Corresponding Secretary Lynn Reis |
The Corresponding Secretary conducts Section correspondence with the general membership and the public. |

The Treasurer keeps a full and complete record of the Section's financial accounts, manages all funds of the Section, and prepares the annual financial report as required by the Society. |

SWE-Boston’s Section Representatives represent the Section at all Council of Representatives and Regional Council meetings and votes for the Section on all Regional and Society ballots. They are the liaison between the Section membership, the Region, and the national organization. |

Corporate Relations |
Initial point of contact for business and industry for SWE Boston. |
Email Coordinator Database Coordinator |
Email Coordinator duties include responding to all SWE-Boston email, maintaining SWE-Boston distribution lists, and compiling email RSVPs for monthly meetings. |
Engineer's Week Liaison |
The E-Week Liaison attends Boston-area Engineer Week Committee (EWC) meetings and helps to plan the E-Week Celebration in March as a SWE-Boston representative. Typically these events include a career fair, luncheon, speakers, and exhibits. |
Fundraising |
Chair duties include interacting with corporate sponsors to raise funds for Career Guidance and Professional Development activities. |
SWE Boutique Coordinator |
The SWE Boutique Coordinator coordinates SWE-Boston's fundraising efforts, which include fundraising with area corporations, selling SWE logo items, and planning fundraising events. |
Girl Scout Badge Workshops |
Chair duties include working with one of the local girl scout councils to plan a workshop for Girl Scouts to earn a Science related badge. The chair also recruits workshop chairs and event volunteers. |
Job Bank |
Chair duties include coordinating SWE-Boston’s job bank: a collection of open postings from area companies. The Job Bank Chair compiles these postings and sends them out electronically to members who are looking for jobs. |
Job Shadow / Informational Interviewing |
Chair duties include recruiting SWE members who are willing to have students shadow them in their workplace or to answer questions about their chosen field of engineering. The chair also communicates with area schools to recruit students to participate in the program. |
Membership Database |
This chair is responsible for keeping the SWE-Boston membership database up to date and preparing labels for mailings. |
Membership |
The Membership committee handles all tasks and sponsors programs associated with the goals of member recruitment, retention, and services. These activities include membership administration, and preparing packets for new and potential members. |
Mentorship |
Chair duties include recruiting SWE members to act as mentors and area high school students to participate in the mentoring program, as well as facilitating ongoing email discussions between mentors and mentees by distributing monthly email topics. |
Merit Certificates |
SWE-Boston presents Merit Certificates to high school girls who have excelled in math and science. These awards are coordinated with area high schools. |
Newsletter |
The newsletter editor compiles all articles and advertisements, then coordinates the printing with Copy Cop and the mailing house. |
Nominating Committee |
The Nominating Committee members select the best qualified candidates for each of the SWE-Boston Executive Committee offices and prepares the ballot for the yearly election. |
Publicity Chair |
The Public Representative coordinates SWE announcenments to local newspapers, other engineering organizations, career fairs, and expos. |
Regional Networking Events |
The Regional Networking Events coordinator focuses on organizing collective gatherings situated at the varying regions within the Boston area and those that focus on topics that help SWE members draw from the experiences of other members. |
Reservation/Acteva Coordinator |
The Reservation/Acteva Coordinator publishes the RSVP page for all SWE Boston main events. |
SCHOLARSHIP ADMINISTRATOR AIWA SCHOLARSHIP COORDINATOR |

Science Fair |
The Chair organizes SWE-Boston volunteers to judge the Fairs and present an award to each Fair. |
School Outreach (Speaker's Bureau) |
Chair duties include communicating with area schools and community programs on speaking and workshop requests and enlisting volunteers to participate as speakers and workshop leaders. |
Collegiate Section Liaison |
This position coordinates communication between Boston-area student sections and SWE-Boston. The liaison ensures that all area schools are aware of SWE-Boston’s activities, promotes networking amongst the area’s student sections, and assists with SWE questions that may arise. |
Tellers - Position Open |
Two tellers who are not on the ballot are appointed by the EC to assist with counting the ballots in the yearly election. |
| Website |
The Website committee updates the site to include the latest information about upcoming SWE-Boston events. The website is also updated periodically to ensure the site serves the SWE-Boston membership as a resource for women in engineering. |
| Wow! That's Engineering Coordinators |
"Wow! That's Engineering?" is a single day SWE event
to be held on a weekend afternoon in the fall. The idea is to use projects, demonstrations, panel discussions, and whatever else you can envision to show girls that engineering can be "Wow!" |
