About this Event
The event will feature 3 lightning talks by Jen Hoberman, Gabby Raymond, and Erica Lindy, who will share their experience with maintaining technical growth while pursuing management responsibilities. An introduction will be given by Stephanie Turner, the VP of Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Innovation at MITRE.
Event Description:
As scientists and engineers gain more experience and move to higher positions within their organizations, they often find that the increased responsibilities of management come with a disconnect from day-to-day project work. For many, this means a focus on growing their management skills at the expense of technical growth. Keeping a strong technical background means better communication with teams during project management. It also means the ability to jump back into engineering work when necessary or desired. The question then begs: how does one maintain and strengthen STEM skills while moving into higher management? Hear from these women about the barriers, opportunities, and growth that go into a exciting and inspiring technical career.

Speakers

Gabby Raymond is a Principal Cybersecurity Engineer at The MITRE Corporation. As a technical leader, Gabby helps advance the state of the art in operational cybersecurity with a specific research focus on adversary engagement. Gabby also has experience as a supervisor for MITRE’s Cyber New Professionals Department, where she helped shape and lead a rotational program to develop early career employees. Gabby holds a B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science and a M.S. in Computer Science, both from Tufts University.

Jennifer Hoberman has been working Battle Management Command and Control (BMC2) and surveillance platforms for most of her 25-year career with MITRE. She started as an undergraduate intern, transitioned into systems engineering for software-intensive systems, and from there into project management. Her current challenge is maturing science and technology prototypes into military programs of record. Jennifer is the MITRE Project Leader for three U.S. Air Force Homeland Defense BMC2 acquisition programs. Jennifer earned her M.S. in Systems Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a B.S. in Computer Science from Northeastern University.

Erica Lindy has been working with Command and Control (C2) systems for almost 20 years across a diverse set of missions. Erica started her career with MITRE working communications effects modeling for Army C2 systems, and then moved into the design, fielding, and testing of integrated sensor, intelligence, and C2 systems. After returning from a NATO NCI Agency assignment in The Hague, working Integrated Air and Missile Defense systems, Erica returned to MITRE and joined the Air Force Space (now Space Force) work program where she was responsible for staff and supported programs such as GPS, Advanced Space Superiority, and Remote Sensing. She eventually served as the MITRE Co-Technical Director for Space Warfighting and is now the MITRE Chief Scientist for integrated all domain effects with a focus on space. In 2019, Erica was selected to assist with the standup of the Space Development Agency as a C2 SME, and she was recently selected to be a Technical Agent for the National Security Space Enterprise. Erica earned her M.S. in Systems Architecture and Engineering from the University of Southern California, as well as her B.A. in Mathematics from Rutgers University.

Stephanie Turner is Vice President of Inclusion, Diversity, and Social Innovation at MITRE. In this role, she works collaboratively to develop and drive inclusion and diversity strategy within the company, oversee talent acquisition, and establish a new function for social innovation programs, including corporate social responsibility. Under her leadership, MITRE will maximize relationships with external organizations whose perspectives are important in shaping our national social landscape, with an initial focus on STEM education in underserved communities. Turner has spent two decades championing diversity and inclusion. She brings leadership experience in strategic planning, professional development, process improvement, talent acquisition, multicultural marketing, and employee engagement for global brands. She sits on the advisory board for Simmons University Institute for Inclusive Leadership. Turner earned her M.S. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and her B.A. in economics from Spelman College.
