On Sunday, March 12, 2017, Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts hosted their 5th Annual STEM Conference and Expo at The Sheraton Framingham Hotel. This event hopes to spread knowledge and excitement for STEM to the future women scientists, leaders, and great minds of Girl Scouts. SWE presented a workshop titled "Clean Water Through Chemical Engineering" to a full room of 25 girls, ranging from middle to high school. The girls learned the basics of mechanical and chemical filtration, and then used simple materials such as sand, dried beans, and cotton balls to create their own filtration system! They all enjoyed working to make their filters more effective and sharing their ideas with the group. SWE Boston members Ellie Sanford and Elisabeth Posthill ran the SWE workshop.
