Get Involved!

SWE-Boston is entirely run by members like yourself who help us plan programs, reach out to the community, and perform the general administrative duties that keep SWE-Boston in business. Volunteering in SWE-Boston is a great way to build professional skills: team leadership, meeting planning, presentation and facilitation, and negotiating are just some areas you can gain expertise. Several of the positions give a great deal of visibility and networking opportunities. There are jobs ranging from a few hours one time to an ongoing commitment. Many of the positions do not involve attending any meetings and can be done on your own time. And besides just helping out SWE, volunteering is a great way to meet other SWE members and to have a lot of fun! Contact the names given below for more information on any of these volunteer opportunities.

Additionally, if you have ideas about new projects that SWE could start or an area you'd like to help out with that isn't listed here, please contact us at swebos@sweboston.org

5. Work with your employer to host or sponsor a meeting

6. Help at the registration table at a meeting

There are positions ranging from a few hours one time to 2-4 hours per month; the Professional Development Committee would love your help! For more information, contact Lori Amara.

K-12 Outreach Committee

The K-12 Outreach Committee coordinates programs concerning career guidance that inform women, their families, guidance counselors, and the public in general, of the qualifications and achievements of women engineers and the opportunities open to them. Current programs include Mentoring, Girl Scout Badge Workshops, School Outreach, Speakers Bureau, Informational Interviewing, Job Shadow, Merit Certificates, Scholarships, and Science Fair Judging. You can help out on this committee by helping to plan an outreach event, mentoring students via email, participating in job shadow or informational interviewing, speaking to students about engineering, mailing letters to guidance counselors, judging a science fair, and in countless other ways. For more information, contact K-12 Outreach VP Bryn Dews.

SWE Student Section Counselor

Every Student Section must have a SWE Counselor. The Counselor acts as a source of information about SWE and its goals, as a liaison between industry and the Student Section, and as a role model and source of moral support. Counselor responsibilities include reviewing the Section’s annual and financial reports, attending Student Section meetings from time to time, and being on call to answer questions as they arise. The time commitment for this job depends on the Student Section, but it is not more than a few hours per month. If you are interested, please send a message to webmaster@sweboston.org.
