Mansfield Envision The Future STEM Expo
SWE Boston hosted a couple of tables at the Mansfield Envision the Future STEM expo on Saturday March 18th, 2017. The goal of the event was to engage 5th and 6th grade students and their parents in STEM activities that relate to a STEM field. The STEM Expo was presented by the Mansfield Envision the Future Team in conjunction with Together We Can. Envision the Future is a program of the Southeastern Massachusetts STEM network.
There were over 200 students and parents in attendance. Workshops and activities were presented by engineering corporations, educational organizations, and parent volunteers. SWE Boston members Tulika Hainsworth, Michelle Beauchesne, and Jennet Toyjanova had students build a couple of snap circuits projects to compare serial and parallel electrical circuits and discuss general engineering principles. Tulika had brought "show and tell" items that highlighted IC manufacturing and power of semiconductors in the electronics we use every day. We also discussed how engineers shape our everyday world. It was a great opportunity to foster interest in engineering amongst these students and the parents enjoyed the projects too!
